Friday, May 03, 3:45 pm –
Sherman Indian School Cemetery, this school was founded by the United States Government to assimilate Native Americans into the mainstream society, upon which hundreds of Native American children were removed from their homes and tribal cultures, sent to these schools to be educated, taught a trade and required to conform to Euro-American society.
Because of Bureau policies, students did not return home for several years, many of whom died and were buried in the school cemetery.
Friday, May 3rd is Indian Flower Day.
We will take any volunteers to go and decorate the graves with flowers tomorrow at 3:45pm leaving on the bus from the Fire Circle. Please send your students who have community service hours or your club representative that has cemetery clean up service still needed. Anyone is welcome to come and join us.
